DMITRE's Mineral Resources Division offers a wide range of career opportunities including careers in administration and management, and positions for executive officers, geologists and engineers.

Roles within the group may include the following:

  • Strategic policy and support - facilitating the development of various mining projects; providing advice and statistics to the government and the community; advising on legislative frameworks
  • Mining regulation and rehabilitation - regulating exploration and mining industries; determining and collecting statutory royalties
  • Geoscientific information management - defining mineral resources and their potential; generating and managing geoscientific information; providing geoscientific advice and data to industry, government and the community

Geoscientist Assistance Program (GAP) extended

The GAP which provides placements for graduate geoscientists has been extended until 30 June 2012.

About RESA
RESA works with resource companies and education and training providers to address anticipated skills shortages in the resources sector.

Program targets include:

  • management, professional staff and graduates
  • para professionals, technicians/ trades and apprentices
  • plant and equipment operators
  • site administration and support personnel
  • indigenous, rural and regional groups

Work experience

DMITRE's Mineral Resources Division considers applications from secondary school students wanting to undertake work experience in the geosciences. Successful applicants are provided with a variety of hands-on experiences including field, laboratory and office components of geoscientific work.

Applicants should contact the Mineral Resources Division Education Services Officer in writing at least one term before the expected school release time, stating reasons why they have chosen this vocational area. Include all contact details.
