Education

PIRSA's Community Education Service provides:

  • Practical, hands-on workshops for students on geoscience matters
  • Teaching resources
  • Geoscientific lectures for a range of age groups
  • Professional development for teachers
  • Advice and support for field excursions
  • A range of educational materials and work experience

Schools can obtain teaching resources free of charge, and, in most places in South Australia, PIRSA's Community Education Officer will visit your school to give hands-on workshops for students and professional development presentations to staff.

The Community Education Officer can also assist with guided field excursions to areas of geological interest within South Australia.

All educational presentations, classroom resource packages, field studies and practical workshops are designed to compliment the current curriculum areas of 'Society and the Environment' and 'Science and Technology'.

Other workshop topics may be arranged upon request.

Work experience

Students wishing to do work experience in the geosciences should contact the PIRSA Education Services Officer in writing at least one term before the expected school release time, stating reasons why they have chosen this vocational area, and include all contact details.

Successful applicants will be hosted to a wide ranging variety of hands-on experiences, including Field, Laboratory and Office components of geoscientific work.
