South Australian Basins
In geological terms, a basin is a depression in the Earth’s crust in which sediments can be deposited. The continuous deposition of material can then cause further depression or subsidence.
There are several basins in South Australia which span a broad range of geological time. The following information gives a summary of some of the more well known and often referred to basins within the State.
