There is a two-stage authorisation process for mining in South Australia.
Anyone wishing to explore for minerals in South Australia must support their application for a mining lease with a 'mining lease proposal'.
If PIRSA approves the proposal and grants the lease, a 'mining and rehabilitation program' (MARP) must be approved under the Mining Act 1971 (external site, opens in new window) before mining may commence.
