Production at the Leigh Creek coal mine in 2006–07 continued at near record levels, with a total of 3 880 0488 t of coal produced.

While mining continues from Lobe B, rehabilitation of the north fields Lobe C and D is continuing. Visible dragline spoil heaps are being flattened to a 1 in 6 gradient and covered by topsoil and seeded. Regrowth has been poor this year because of persistent drought.

All coal is transported to the Northern and Playford power stations at Port Augusta where it is used to generate ~40% of the state’s electricity.
