Theme 5 - Resource Development and Sustainable Communities - aims to develop training and employment opportunities for Idnigenous people in South Australia's remote areas while ensuring that culture, families and communities remain strong.
PACE funding has successfully supported the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunyjatjara (APY) Lands Council in establishing ongoing working relationships with consultant anthropologists and lawyers to process mineral exploration applications and negotiate with traditional owners over access to the APY lands for mineral exploration.
A standard deed of agreement has been developed for mineral exploration within APY Lands and there are established protocols for communication and consultation with traditional owners, communities and the APYLC.
All applications for mineral exploration and geoscientific projects including those conducted by PIRSA are now processed according to these protocols.
