Calling all future rural leaders

Wednesday 11 March, 2009

Do you have what it takes to be a future leader in your community?

If so, applications are now open for the 2009 South Australian Rural Leadership Program (SARLP).

The SARLP aims to encourage and provide potential rural leaders with the skills, motivation and confidence to seek an active role in the local community and agricultural industries.

This year’s program will be held in Adelaide over four days from 22-25 September, with a two-day follow-up session on 22-23 October.

Program Leader, PIRSA Rural Communities, Lib Hylton Keele, says the program aims to develop the next generation of leaders for South Australia by providing participants with a range of hands on experience in specialised leadership development.

“The workshops focus on boosting the participant’s skills in strategic planning, negotiation, lobbying, managing change and team building,” she said.

“We are looking for participants who are passionate and dynamic and who can demonstrate their potential to be involved in a leadership role in rural industries and communities.

“The feedback we’ve received from past participants is that the program has not only given them better leadership skills, but taught them a lot about themselves, providing them with the confidence and motivation to step up and take a lead role in their community.”

Applications forms can be downloaded from the PIRSA website at: www.pir.sa.gov.au/sarlp

Closing date for applications is 7 August 2009.
