Riverland fish kill lab results

Thursday 24 July 2008

Laboratory testing of samples of dead Bony Bream fish from Barmera’s Lake Bonney following a recent fish kill has not found an explanation for the deaths.

The histopathology found death was not caused by bacteria or disease and an environmental cause was more likely.

The PIRSA Manager, Marine Biosecurity, Vic Neverauskas, said it remained likely that the environmental cause was recent cold water temperatures. This particular species has low tolerance to cold water temperatures.

PIRSA has urged people to report any fish kills to the 24-hour Fishwatch hotline 1800 065 522.
