VOICEOVER:
This farmer is taking a leap of faith into rural leadership.

She’s part of a South Australian rural leadership program where rural people can develop their leadership skills.

From 20 feet up you not only face your fears… the rope climb helps build faith in your team and proves you can expand your boundaries.

It’s all about helping primary producers, rural people and young farmers get together to establish important networks and share creative ideas.

And that’s shaping them up as future rural leaders.

LIB HYLTON KEELE: MANAGER, RURAL AFFAIRS:
We’re finding that a lot of the young people aren’t moving into some of the industry organizations and that’s were a lot of key decisions are made within communities and within industries. So the more skills we can give young people, the more likely they are to take up a position within these industries and help influence decisions in primary production and rural communities into the future.

VOICEOVER:
And it was back to the classroom to come to grips with important issues such as leadership styles … communication … self-esteem … and relationships.

LIB HYLTON KEELE: MANAGER, RURAL AFFAIRS:
The feedback that we’ve had from the participants is that it’s really given them the spark and the motivation to become involved in their communities and to try and take charge of some of the industry groups and community organizations that their involved in.

The Program is all about keeping people on the land. The future of SA’s primary industries will rest firmly in their hands.
