RIRDC 2011 SA Rural Women’s Award winner – Video Transcript

Voice over – For Kim Blenkiron growing up on a mixed sheep and cropping farm in the Mallee meant she developed a passion for agriculture early on

Kim learnt that women could do anything in agriculture

And by winning the 2011 RIRDC South Australian Rural Women’s Award, her aim is to share and build that confidence in others.

Kim Blenkiron – “There’s always new women coming into the industry  and it’s really important that we encourage these women and give them the right environment so they can achieve their goals whether its personally in business or in the industry:

Voice over - A highly motivated woman, Kim has been community minded for many years,

Her work with Partners in Grain has given her the opportunity to work with women in regional communities developing their skills and confidence to take leadership.

Kim Blenkiron: In Partners in Grain we say to have long lasting relationships we need to all link arms and shuffle. By linking arms and working together we can support each other to achieve great things, in our business, in our local communities and in our industry, nationally and for ourselves

Voice over - And to help Kim reach her goal, a 10 thousand dollar bursary - courtesy of RIRDC – was presented to her by The Hon Lyn Breuer Member for Giles and Speaker of the House of Assembly,

Kim Blenkiron: It’s quite exciting and quite humbling to be announced the award winner. There’s been some great women that have won in the past, so now to be among those people is quite special.

Voice over - Winning the award recognises Kim’s passion to learn, provide leadership and share her skills with other rural women.

And she is looking forward to being inspired herself by a mentor for the coming year.

Kim Blenkiron: it’s someone there to be able to challenge me, to challenge my ideas and cement by ideas about where I see my role in agriculture in South Australia and what I want to do as far as leadership, and try and cement the direction I was to take with my business in agriculture and particularly women in agriculture.

Voice over - Now in its 12th year, the RIRDC award recognises the vital role women make to rural Australia.
