Horticulture Plant Health Consultative Committee

Plant health is of strategic importance to government and industry by protecting horticulture industries from the increased risk of emergency plant pests that could have adverse effects on production, trade and market access.

The role of the Horticulture Plant Health Consultative Committee, set up in 2003, includes:

  • Overseeing national developments in plant health and identifying South Australia's requirements under such developments/ agreements, eg Plant Health Australia, national deed of agreement on emergency plant pests and industry biosecruity planning.
  • Identifying and recommending plant health strategies for risk management in South Australia including strategies at the state, regional and individual farm level.
  • Ensuring that South Australia's legislative framework meets the current and future needs of plant health within the State.
  • Identifying and making recommendations on other issues that impact or are likely to impact upon plant health in South Australia including the need for a whole of community approach to plant health.
